The Environmental Law Service, Czech Republic, November 2007
The Watchdog Incubator project addresses two serious problems facing watchdog NGOs in New Members States. First is insufficient knowledge of similar organizations and possibilities for cooperation in other Member states. The second problem is decreasing financial sources. The project aims are therefore to boost cooperation between NGOs from different parts of the EU and to work on developing diverse fundraising strategies for watchdog organizations in the region.
As one of the main outputs of the project there will be meeting of NGOs and donors held on November 27^th and 28^th in Prague, Czech Republic. The event will be hosted by CEELI Institute.
The first day will be devoted to the meeting of NGOs, focusing on searching for new ways and fields of cooperation and discussing future fundraising strategies. Representatives of 20 NGOs from 7 EU and 2 SEE countries will take part.
The second day will be a meeting of NGOs with funding institutions and fundraising specialist. More then 35 participants will discuss the serious reduction of traditional funding sources for watchdog activities. They will address issues such as private foundations perspectives, obstacles to use EU funds, corporate funding and watchdog independence, individual donations and attractiveness of watchdog NGOs.
